Spent Precious Metal Powder Catalysts (PMPCs) are sent to a metals refinery, where the precious metal is extracted from the catalyst. The catalyst is destroyed in this procedure. The refinery produces fresh precious metal salt solutions, which are subsequently used in the production of fresh PMPCs. This is how the precious metals are kept in a loop and the loss of precious metals is minimised.
